Okana Skincare Review: #TriedandTested

Let me put it out there… over the years, I must have tried hundreds and hundreds of different skincare brands. I’ve slathered my face in everything, from bee venom to some serious chemicals, chasing a glowing complexion that always seemed unobtainable. When the team at Okana reached out to work together, I was so excited at the prospect of working with a natural skincare brand.

I’ve always been hesitant to invest fully in a natural skin care brand, and have often sought out products that are jam-packed with impressive scientific ingredients that I don’t understand. Okana skincare products only contain between 4-7 ingredients per product, and the ingredients are all natural. Technically, you could eat them! (Don’t do it though, slather them on your face instead. When it comes to grocery shopping I’m always reading the ingredients list thoroughly, and after using Okana skincare for the past 2 months, I’ve realised I should be doing that with all of my beauty products.

Okana Skincare

Gone are the days where the more chemical-y ingredients a product has, the better. After using Okana for two months, I can confidently say I’ll never go back. Their products are made from potent plant-based ingredients, smell naturally divine and truly help to transform skin. I’ve never had particularly bad skin, but there have been recurring issues since I entered my late 20s (hormonal acne anyone?!) that I’ve had to deal with. If you’re a chemical-loving skincare gal (like my former self) or already love natural skincare, I promise you will love Okana skincare.

Okana is the brainchild of Vibs Amin, who struggled with her own skincare products after finding nothing on the market was working for her. A few years after experimenting with tried-and-tested family secret recipes, Vibs released Okana out into the world, and it has flourished ever since. It’s a totally unique 100% natural and vegan skincare range that is made in New Zealand, and will work for any skincare type. I was sent the Radiant skin gift box (currently on sale for $109.95 heyyyyy!) and it has everything you’ll ever need skincare wise.

My Okana Skincare Routine

MORNING

Okana skincare blog review

The Natural apple juice foaming cleanser

Every morning I wake up and turn straight to the Okana apple juice cleanser, which uses the natural amino acids from apple juice to give your skin a delicate and refreshing clean. It removes any makeup from the night before (if you know, you know) and leaves your skin feeling super soft and radiant. It’s made with only 7 ingredients: water, apple juice, apple amino acids, beetroot, corn, fennel and plant-derived glycerin. Pretty impressive, huh?

Cucumber + lettuce toner

I’m a total toner addict, and when I saw Okana had created a completely natural one toner I was SO excited. We all know a good toner helps to maintain your skin’s optimal pH level, and the Okana one does exactly that. It’s really light, absorbs quickly and keeps my skin fresh no matter what time of the day it is. It only has seven ingredients: water, lettuce juice, cucumber juice, apple juice, corn, fennel and plant-derived glycerin. I love putting mine in the fridge on those hot summer days and then spraying it on my face and neck for an instant cool down.

The Vegetable garden day moisturiser

I am super fussy when it comes to moisturisers, and the Okana vegetable moisturiser is a real winner. Made with fresh apricots, macadamia oil, carrot and tomato juices, it leaves your skin feeling plump and glowy. I’ve found that applying it straight after the shower makes it really soak in, and leaves your skin feeling nourished. The only downfall is it doesn’t contain an SPF (as it’s all natural skincare), so make sure you apply SPF at the end of your morning ritual.

The Natural Mango + Apricot Cleanser

I love an oil-based cleanser, and this mango + apricot cleanser is like a skin melt. Made with only four ingredients: apricot kernel oil, macadamia oil, rapeseed oil and mango, it gently dissolves your makeup and gets into those hard to reach crevices (looking at you, forehead creases!). It’s also extremely satisfying taking your makeup off with an oil cleanser, as it mixes it all up together on your face and leaves you looking like a Picasso artwork 😂 With this cleanser, you need to have enough time to use it properly. It’s easy to apply, but you do need to spend a little time washing it off properly so you remove all of the oil. If you don’t have the time and want to jump into bed, just use the natural apple juice cleanser on its own.

Bamboo bead face scrub

You’re either a scrub lover or hater, and I’d definitely class myself as a lover. I genuinely enjoy the feeling of scrubbing my face, and the Okana bamboo bead face scrub is a powerful one. If you prefer a gentle scrub, this probably isn’t the one for you. If you’re like me and love the feeling of a decent scrub, you will love this product thanks to the finely ground Bamboo powder that deeply exfoliates your skin. Made with only seven ingredients: water, bamboo beads, apple amino acids, fermented sugar, corn, fennel and plant-derived glycerin. I currently use this scrub 3 x a week, but if you’re just starting, I would use it once a week and increase where you see fit.

The Berry Blend natural night moisturiser

Out of all the Okana products, this is my stand-out, must-have product. It’s easily absorbed, smells like heaven and is intensely hydrating (as a night cream should be!). It’s made with apricot kernel oil, mixed berry juice, red grape extract and macadamia oil, and leaves your skin feeling really dewy. It’s thicker than the vegetable day moisturiser, and doesn’t absorb as fast, so you do wake up feeling it on your skin. In saying that, 90% of it absorbs overnight (for me), and it always leaves my skin glowy AF.

I hope you enjoyed my review of Okana skincare, and if you purchase it, I hope you love it as much as I do. If you have any questions please pop them below and I’ll answer them as soon as I can x
