PLAY: Vatnajökull Glacier Walk with Glacier Adventures Review

One of the first thing you notice when you drive through Iceland is the plethora of beautiful glaciers. Their towering peaks covered in lush white snow draw you in, and if you’re anything like me you’ll get an overwhelming sense to get onto one.

Doesn’t matter how you do it, but all you can think about is getting onto that magical piece of Earth. I was trying to work out the best way to fufill this dream, and that’s when I stumbled across Glacier Adventures.

They’re total professionals when it comes to Icelandic tours, and they use unreal local guides who know their country inside out. This particular tour satisfied all my wildest glacial dreams, and to have the chance to physically hike across and up the Vatnajökull glacier is one I’ll always remember.

The trip begins at Hali Country Hotel reception, where you’re picked up in an epic super truck and driven towards the glacier. The ride is insanely fun, and I loved every minute of it. We were literally driving over boulders the size of small cars, and it really gets you excited for the walk to come.

We were given crampons, harnesses, helmets and ice picks, and we really did look (and feel!) the real deal. The next 1.5 hours was one of my best memories from Iceland, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Walking on a glacier like that makes you feel invincible, like you’ve reached the top of the world. The walk was semi-steep and it was an epic workout. The photos don’t do the walk justice at all, and I’d highly recommend this walk with Glacier Adventures.  Enjoy!
