GUIDE: Where to eat in Marrakech

As the capital of Morocco, Marrakech is a super popular tourist destination known for it’s infamous Jemaa El Fna square markets, incredible architecture and delicious food.

Around every souk corner lies another eatery in Marrakech, and the options are often overwhelming. If you’ve already reached the end of the line when it comes to tagine (and it’s only day two!), it might feel like there are no other options for food in Marrakech.

I absolutely love Moroccan food, and really enjoyed exploring the beautiful places for food in Marrakech. From street food where a traditional sandwich will cost you $1 to the fancier restaurants that match Western prices, there’s something for every picky eater in Marrakech. Here’s an easy guide to where to eat in Marrakech:

  1. Le Jardin: Whether you’re a devoted Instagrammer or just love interiors, visiting Le Jardin isn’t an option.. it’s a must. Sage green lines the walls of this open-air restaurants, where tropical plants sit in every corner accompanied by beautiful artworks. This was easily my favourite place to visit in Morocco, and everywhere you look is a visual delight. The entire menu looked divine, and we opted for the duck confit, babaganoush bruschetta and fresh lemon tart for dessert.

2. Nomad: If you haven’t already heard of NOMAD, you might have been living under a rock. Cafe NOMAD sits high in Marrakech, offering unparalleled views of the city square and beyond. The menu was large, but I was slightly disappointed with the devilry of the food. It was very expensive, and we had far better local food elsewhere.

3. Le Salama (rooftop bar): We stumbled upon Le Salama by accident, and it was the best accident to ever happen. Le Salama has three different levels, with a casual dining level, incredible restaurant and a rooftop bar on top. The views are beautiful, and Le Salama is one of the few places that offers alcohol at a reasonable price in Morocco. All of the staff were absolutely lovely, and while we didn’t eat there, the food coming out looked great!

4. Cafe de Espies: If you’re after a quick bite to eat, Cafe de Espies is located centrally within the Jemaa El Fna square. It has beautiful red, earthy interiors and bloody good burgers. It also offers a great opportunity for people watching, just head up to the second level and nab yourself a seat by the window.

5. Black Chich Cafe: Another happy accident, the Black Chich Cafe is in the backstreets of Marrakech (old town) and has delicious traditional cuisine. It was super affordable, and had much more of a backpacker/young locals vibe rather than super touristy. I’d highly recommend the figs stuffed with goats cheese and dates… you’re welcome!
