The face masks that will make your skin sing.

If you’ve been living under a rock, we’ve had a pretty weird winter in Sydney this year. It’s forced me to start using masks a lot more, as they keep hydrate your skin and they’re an easy solution for a quick but long lasting fix.

I’ve trialled a LOT of masks, and narrowed it down to my favourite 4. These are all really different, and there is a mask in this list for everyone. If you’re suffering from:

DRY SKIN

If winter has affected your skin like it has mine, I’m sure you’re feeling that your face looks dry and flaky. I went in search for a mask that promised to hydrate, and discovered the For Beloved One Extreme Hydration Bio-Cellulose Mask. Made in Japan, this Korean skincare brand has recently hit Sephora in Australia and is a real game-changer. Don’t be deterred by how soaked the mask is when you take it out of the packaging… that is what we want! You peel off the two outer layers and place the mask on your face. It instantly cools your face, and begins to feel like a second skin. I felt like I was in a spa when I had it on, and when I removed it I felt like I’d just had a facial. I massaged the remaining serum (from the mask) into my skin, had a green tea and felt in total bliss. I’d recommend this mask if you’re in need of some relaxed ‘me-time’ and are suffering from dry skin.

OILY SKIN

The new Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask is part of the Body Shop’s new Facial Masks, and is just divine. The bamboo charcoal is sourced from the Himalayas, and definitely tingles the skin when applied. It was very thick when I applied it, but it soon hardened and I could visibly see it drawing out impurities and penetrating my pores. I left it on for 15 minutes, and during that time totally binged on Netflix. It was a little hard to rinse off, but with a lot of water and a little cleanser for those last bits it all came off. Afterwards my skin felt fresh, detoxified and completely clean. I’d recommend this mask to those who are after a deep cleanse, or if you’re after a mask to do with friends. It’s fun because you can physically see it go on and harden.

DULL SKIN

Out of all the masks I’ve trialled, the Dr Brandt Oxygen Facial Flash Recovery Mask was definitely the most fun. You apply it to your skin and it puffs up and tingles, making your face completely covered in mask bubbles. It gently bubbles & fizzes on skin, and actually sounds like champagne bubbles. If your skin has just not been up to scratch lately, this is the mask for you. It leaves your skin feeling refreshed, renewed and just brighter in general. When I used it, my skin felt plumper and even better, I found the results to be immediate. This mask takes mere minutes to work, and is the perfect way to start the day. I’d recommend this for anyone and everyone, especially if you’re after a fun mask that has instant results.

CONGESTED SKIN

We all can suffer from congest skin at different times (blackheads are NOT our friends) and it can be a big downer. I’ve tried everything, including home-made concoctions with bicarb soda ( DO NOT DO IF YOU VALUE YOUR SKIN!) and blackhead nose strips, and just had no luck with any of them. Bring in the real MVP, the Caolion Hot & Cool Pore Pack Duo, which promises to tighten and minimize the appearance of pores. It consists of two different masks, and they do exactly what they say – one heats up the skin and the other cools it down. You apply the first mask and massage it in, and it begins to heat up until it actually feels like an icy burn (in a good way). Then you wash that off with cold water, and apply the cooling mask. Your skin will LOVE this second step and welcome the calming effect of this mask. This combo takes a bit of time but is worth it, your skin will feel smoother and your pores will look smaller. I’d recommend using this duo when you have some time, as it can be messy but is well worth it.
